Meryl Streep and Katie Couric have teamed up to raise awareness of the importance of early screening for cancer.
Streep has partnered with Couric’s Entertainment Industry Foundation’s National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to star in a new PSA to encourage early screening for bowel cancer.
In one of the ads, which will be aired this month as part of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Streep says, “For me, screening was simple and quick. It was no big deal, except for the huge sense of relief you feel afterwards.”
Meryl Streep said, “I made my husband get screened, I made my brothers get screened… I made everyone I love get screened. It’s important to get the word out; people should know how easy it is to go through the procedure that can detect polyps and early cancer.”
Couric adds, “‘Icon’ is overused, but Meryl Streep truly is an American, and worldwide, icon. She is an ideal ambassador to convey that screening saves lives, and we are profoundly grateful for her support.”

Eva Mendes isn’t a fan of sex scenes in her films, calling them “gratuitous” and claiming they rarely add to the story.
Mendes says, “Love scenes are always awkward. They’re awful. I’ve managed to really skip through them. When I read that my character has a love scene I carefully address it with the director: ‘Can we please cut this out? It’s gratuitous and there’s no need for it,’ and thankfully that has happened.
Eva Mendes continues, ”I try to avoid them whenever I can. I have done a couple of things that have been appropriate for the films I’ve been in but I’ve never done a simulated sex scene because I feel like they’re rarely appropriate.”
Eva Mendes will appear naked in one post-coital scene for her upcoming film The Place Beyond The Pines, with co-star and real-life boyfriend Ryan Gosling.
Julianne Hough left some expensive jewelry in her car and paid the price: she was robbed!
The Rock of Ages star parked her car outside an apartment complex in Los Angeles as she visited a friend but forgot about the jewelry in her car, which was worth over $100,000.
When she returned, the door to her car was wide open and it had been ransacked. Three pieces of jewelry, a gift from Hough’s boyfriend Ryan Seacrest, were missing.
Police tell TMZ that it’s unclear whether Julianne Hough left the door unlocked but there were no visible signs of forced entry. Police are investigating the theft, and hopefully Hough will be more careful with her valuables from now on!
Andy and Lana Wachowski are facing a $300 million lawsuit over allegations they stole the premise for their two sequels to The Matrix.
The Wachowskis have been accused by Thomas Althouse of copying the ideas for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions from a script he claims to have submitted to Warner Bros. Pictures in 1993.
Althouse, whose script was called The Immortals, never heard back from Warner Bros. and claims to not have noticed the similarities between the films and his script until he checked out The Matrix trilogy in 2010, years after the films were released.
In his legal documents, obtained by TMZ.com, Althouse alleges that the plugs in the back of the characters’ necks and robotic agents dressed in suits were among the ideas lifted from his screenplay. Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver have also been named as defendants in the copyright infringement battle, alongside Andy and Lana Wachowski. In addition to his $300 million demand, Althouse is requesting a share of the $1.63 billion the trilogy grossed at the global box office.
Camila Alves, wife of Matthew McConaughey, is struggling to recover from the birth of her third child after doctors were forced to perform an additional surgery.
The couple welcomed Livingston in December and Alves reveals that the pregnancy was a difficult one and she begged medics to find out and fix what was wrong with her when she went under the knife to give birth.
Camila Alves says, “This time around has been a really tough recovery. I had a really tough pregnancy; I had all kinds of things happen throughout the pregnancy and… I had really strong pains and I kept telling the doctors to find what it was, what was happening… Nobody could figure out, so we ended up having to do a C-section and I told the doctor right before I went in, I said, ‘Once I’m in there, take a look because I know something is wrong.’
Camila Alves adds, “They end up finding all sorts of things that we had to take care of it, so this recovery has been extremely hard because I had a C-section and then I had all these extra procedures…”
Alves has been banned from exercising as she heals from the surgery, but she is counting down the final four weeks and can’t wait to be able to lift her kids into her arms again. She adds, “I’m not able to exercise because of the recovery that I have now… I can’t even pick up my kids really, I really have to be careful. I have another four weeks to go…”

Rihanna prefers to hang out with men rather than women, saying she “thinks like a man”.
She tells British Elle magazine, “I said that one time and L.A. Reid said, ‘You have to say you’re a girls’ girl because girls are your fans!’ He was mad at me. But it’s the truth. I’m a tomboy…
Rihanna continues, “I happen to think like a man, and do certain things guys like to do… I go to strip clubs – sometimes with men, sometimes on my own. Why? ‘Cause I like the music they play there. It has a certain vibe and I watch the girls pole dancing. Even now I will go to, like, an industry event and all the ladies will be over here and all the guys over here and I will go to the guys’ table and sit because I just feel I can have a much better conversation over there. And that’s automatic, it’s not prejudice.”
Rihanna says that growing up in a family of boys made her completely uninterested in men romantically, adding, “There was just me and one female cousin in this group of family and friends, so I went to school and I automatically had guy friends and when I came to this industry all my friends happened to be guys. When I was a teenager I wasn’t interested in guys at all ’cause I thought I was one of them! They didn’t seem exciting to me, they were more like a pain in the ass.”
